That reputation was earned. Colonial-era sodomy laws, conservative religious influence, and deeply entrenched cultural norms made many islands hostile to queer visitors and residents alike. But the landscape is shifting, and 2024 marked a genuine turning point. ![Vibrant colonial buildings with arches lining a sunny street in Havana, Cuba.](https://i0.wp.com/images.pexels.com/photos/16716970/pexels-photo-16716970.jpeg?ssl=1)Photo by AXP Photography on PexelsCuraçao and Aruba both legalized same-sex marriage that year, joining a growing list of Dutch Caribbean islands that have embraced legal equality. These changes are not just symbolic. They signal to travelers, tour operators, and international hotel brands that the region is open for business, all business. Meanwhile, U.S. territories like Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands continue to offer the full weight of federal anti-discrimination protections, making them the safest bets for American travelers. Still, a gap exists between law and lived experience. An island may have marriage equality on the books but still harbor widespread social conservatism that makes public affection uncomfortable or unsafe. The key for 2026 is understanding which destinations back up legal progress with genuine cultural warmth. The options are broader than ever, but choosing wisely remains essential. ## The 7 Best LGBTQ+ Friendly Islands in the Caribbean (2026 Rankings) These rankings weigh legal protections, local attitudes, the vibrancy of the queer social scene, and practical travel logistics. Each island on this list has earned its place through a combination of progressive policy and welcoming reality. ### 1. Puerto Rico – The Undisputed #1 Pink Haven Puerto Rico stands alone at the top of the list, and the reasons are straightforward. As a U.S. territory, it has had marriage equality since 2015 and full federal anti-discrimination protections. No passport is required for U.S. citizens, and direct flights from major American cities are abundant and affordable. But legal status alone does not make a destination great. What elevates Puerto Rico is its vibrant, visible queer community centered in San Juan’s Santurce neighborhood. Here you will find SX Club, Xteamworks sauna, and a concentration of gay bars and cafes that rival any mainland city. Condado Beach serves as the de facto gay beach, with a lively social scene that runs from morning to sunset. This is not a place where LGBTQ+ travelers are merely tolerated. They are part of the island’s cultural fabric, and that makes all the difference. ### 2. Curaçao – The Newly Legalized Gem Curaçao made history in July 2024 when it legalized same-sex marriage, and the island has wasted no time leaning into its new reputation. Curaçao Pride Week, held each September, has grown into a major regional event that draws visitors from across the Caribbean and beyond. The Dutch Caribbean influence means a more progressive baseline attitude than you will find on many neighboring islands, and the colorful Willemstad architecture provides a stunning backdrop for a vacation that feels both cosmopolitan and relaxed. Snorkeling and diving here are world-class, and a growing number of hotels are pursuing TAG certification for LGBTQ+ inclusivity training. Curaçao is the rising star of Caribbean queer travel. ### 3. Aruba – The All-Inclusive Inclusivity Leader ![Colorful street festival in Limón showcasing vibrant costumes and cultural celebration.](https://i0.wp.com/images.pexels.com/photos/28184020/pexels-photo-28184020.jpeg?ssl=1)Photo by Mario Spencer on PexelsAruba also legalized same-sex marriage in 2024, cementing its long-held reputation as “One Happy Island.” The local tourism industry has embraced LGBTQ+ travelers for years, and many hotels now belong to the Travel Alternative Group, meaning staff have undergone specific inclusivity training. The nightlife scene includes dedicated LGBTQ+ events and welcoming bars, particularly in the Oranjestad and Palm Beach areas. For couples seeking a luxury, all-inclusive experience without the anxiety of wondering how they will be received, Aruba delivers. The island is small, safe, and geared toward making every visitor feel at home. ### 4. US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas & St. John) – American Comfort Like Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands offer full federal protections and no passport requirement for American citizens. St. Thomas has a lively, if small, gay scene with bars and social gatherings that are easy to find with a little research. St. John is quieter, more nature-focused, and ideal for couples who want to hike, snorkel, and unwind in a low-key setting. Sapphire Beach and Secret Harbour on St. Thomas are known as gay-friendly stretches of sand where same-sex couples can relax without concern. Combining a USVI trip with Puerto Rico is easy via a short ferry ride, making this a flexible two-island option. ### 5. Saba – The Quiet Pioneer Saba does not get much press, but it deserves significant credit. This tiny Dutch Caribbean island was the first in the region to legalize same-sex marriage, and it has a strong local queer population that is integrated into the community. Saba is not a party destination. It has no nightclubs, no gay bars, and no Pride parade. What it offers is something rarer: genuine, small-town acceptance where everyone knows everyone and nobody cares who you love. The island is best suited for hikers, divers, and travelers who prefer solitude over social scenes. If you want to feel completely safe while exploring volcanic trails and pristine reefs, Saba is a hidden treasure. ### 6. St. Maarten / St. Martin – The Dual-Nation Vibe Half Dutch, half French, this island offers two distinct experiences. The Dutch side, St. Maarten, is more progressive and openly welcoming, with a bustling cruise port and casino scene that attracts an international crowd. The French side, St. Martin, leans more romantic and reserved. Orient Beach, on the French side, is famously clothing-optional and has long been a gathering spot for gay travelers. Exercise some caution with public displays of affection in rural areas on the French side, where attitudes can be more conservative. In the main tourist zones, however, same-sex couples will find a relaxed, live-and-let-live atmosphere. ### 7. Bonaire – The Diver’s Paradise Bonaire rounds out the list as another Dutch Caribbean island with progressive laws and a laid-back attitude. The island is best known for its shore diving, widely considered among the best in the world. The LGBTQ+ community here is small, but the general atmosphere is one of quiet acceptance. Solo travelers and nature lovers will find Bonaire a peaceful, safe destination where the focus is on the water, not on who you share your hotel room with. ## 4 Caribbean Islands to Avoid (or Approach With Extreme Caution) Not every Caribbean destination is safe. Some islands have laws that criminalize same-sex activity. Others have hostile social climates that can turn dangerous quickly. Here are the places to skip or approach with extreme care in 2026. Jamaica remains the most dangerous Caribbean island for LGBTQ+ travelers. Anti-gay violence is well-documented, and the country’s “buggery” laws, though rarely enforced against tourists, contribute to a culture of impunity for harassment. Multiple travel advisories warn queer visitors to avoid Jamaica entirely. This is not a place to test your luck. St. Lucia is only marginally safer. Same-sex sexual activity is still illegal, and conservative social attitudes dominate. Public displays of affection between same-sex couples can provoke verbal abuse or worse. If you must visit, stay within the confines of an international resort and keep physical affection private. The Dominican Republic presents a mixed picture. Homosexuality is legal, and the Equaldex equality index gives it a score of 38. But high crime rates and strong Catholic influence mean that safety varies dramatically by location. Stick to all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana or La Romana. Do not venture into rural areas or urban centers without a trusted local guide, and avoid PDA entirely. Barbados scores a 55 on the Equaldex index, indicating moderate legal protections, but social acceptance lags behind the law. Tourist zones are generally safe, but venturing outside them can expose travelers to hostile attitudes. Exercise caution and read the room before showing affection. A final pro tip: always check the latest U.S. State Department travel advisories and local LGBTQ+ news sources before booking. Conditions can change, and staying informed is your first line of defense. ## Essential Safety Tips for LGBTQ+ Travelers in the Caribbean The PDA rule is your most important guideline. Public displays of affection are perfectly fine in Puerto Rico and the USVI. In Jamaica, St. Lucia, and rural areas of the Dominican Republic, they are not. A simple handhold that would go unnoticed in San Juan can attract dangerous attention in Montego Bay. When in doubt, follow the lead of local queer people. If you do not see same-sex couples being affectionate in public, do not be the first. Hotel booking matters more than you might think. Always choose TAG-certified hotels or resorts with documented LGBTQ+ inclusivity. Many properties in Aruba and Curaçao have earned this certification, and it provides a layer of assurance that staff will treat you with respect. Read recent reviews from queer travelers on platforms like TripAdvisor and Reddit before committing. Documentation requires special attention for transgender travelers. Ensure your passport name and gender marker match your appearance to avoid complications at airports and border crossings. This is especially important outside U.S. territories, where local officials may be less familiar with gender diversity. Local research pays off. Join LGBTQ+ Facebook groups or check Reddit threads for the islands you are considering. Real-time advice from people on the ground is often more accurate than polished travel guides. Search for terms like “gay friendly restaurants Aruba” or “trans safety Puerto Rico” to find current, candid information. Have an emergency plan. Know the number for the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate if you are an American citizen. Save local emergency contacts in your phone. If a situation feels unsafe, trust your instincts and leave. No vacation is worth your safety. ## Transgender Travelers: What You Need to Know in the Caribbean Transgender-specific travel advice is frustratingly scarce in most Caribbean guides, but it is essential. The safest destinations for trans travelers mirror the overall rankings: Puerto Rico and the USVI lead the list due to U.S. anti-discrimination laws and greater cultural familiarity with gender diversity. Curaçao and Aruba are also solid choices, with progressive Dutch-influenced attitudes and growing awareness in the tourism sector. Documentation is critical. TSA rules apply in U.S. territories, which simplifies airport security for American trans travelers. For other islands, carry a copy of your passport and any relevant medical documentation, including prescriptions and letters from healthcare providers. Contact hotels directly before booking to confirm their gender-neutral policies and ensure check-in will be smooth. Jamaica, St. Lucia, and the Dominican Republic are not recommended for visibly trans travelers. The combination of conservative attitudes, limited legal protections, and higher rates of violence creates an unacceptable level of risk. For peer-to-peer advice, search “trans friendly caribbean islands” on Reddit or in Facebook groups dedicated to trans travel. The information is out there, but you have to dig for it. ## Budget-Friendly LGBTQ+ Caribbean Travel (2026 Edition) LGBTQ+ Caribbean travel does not have to mean all-inclusive resorts at luxury prices. Puerto Rico is the budget king, with affordable flights from most U.S. cities, cheap and delicious local food at the Luquillo kiosks, and hostels in Santurce that put you in the heart of the gay village. You can eat well, sleep cheaply, and still enjoy a vibrant queer social scene. Curaçao offers a middle path. Skip the big resorts and look for apartment rentals in the Pietermaai district, a walkable neighborhood full of restaurants, street art, and nightlife. You will save money and experience a more authentic side of the island. Aruba can be expensive, but visiting in the off-season from May to June drops rates significantly. Book TAG-certified boutique hotels rather than sprawling resorts to find better value without sacrificing inclusivity. For the USVI, take the ferry from Puerto Rico to St. Thomas. This lets you combine two destinations for the price of one flight, and the ferry itself is an affordable, scenic ride. ## Frequently Asked Questions About LGBTQ+ Travel in the Caribbean Which Caribbean country has the most LGBTQ+ people? In 2026, the options for gay and lesbian adventurers are more diverse than ever, with dedicated charters to Antarctica, the Arctic, and beyond. Whether you dream of hiking across frozen tundra, watching penguins waddle along ice floes, or celebrating pride under the southern lights, there is a voyage designed with you in mind. This guide covers what you need to know to plan a memorable LGBTQ+ expedition cruise in 2026, with a special focus on Antarctica. ## Why Choose an LGBTQ+ Expedition Cruise? Expedition cruises appeal to travelers seeking authentic encounters with nature, science, and culture. For LGBTQ+ passengers, booking a cruise that explicitly welcomes the community removes any guesswork about safety and inclusion. Many operators host all-gay or all-LGBTQ+ charters where the entire ship shares the same identity, creating an immediate sense of belonging. These voyages often include programming like drag shows, community meet-ups, and educators who understand the unique perspective of queer explorers. When you travel with a dedicated LGBTQ+ expedition cruise, you can focus entirely on the adventure ahead. You will not have to explain yourself or navigate subtle discomfort. Instead, you can share awe-inspiring moments with people who understand your experiences. From witnessing breaching whales to stepping foot on the seventh continent, these shared memories become part of a larger queer travel story. ## Top LGBTQ+ Expedition Cruise Options for 2026 Several companies now offer LGBTQ+ focused expedition itineraries. The research points to a range of options, from full-ship charters to pride-themed sailings on major lines. ### All-Gay Charter Operators **Atlantis Events** is a leading name in gay cruises and LGBT+ vacations. Known for its vibrant entertainment and fun in stunning destinations, Atlantis frequently charters entire ships for its guests. While Atlantis typically focuses on warm‑weather itineraries, its reputation for community‑building makes any voyage a safe bet for queer travelers. **Out Adventures** runs a signature gay Antarctica cruise that has become a benchmark for polar expedition travel. This journey begins in Buenos Aires, flies to Ushuaia (the “End of the World”), and boards the ship Ultramarine. Once across the Drake Passage, guests experience sub‑zero safaris, hikes, whale encounters, and the chance to camp on the ice for one night. Albatross and penguins are part of the daily scenery. **HE Travel** also offers a gay Antarctica adventure cruise with hiking, optional kayaking, and camping on the ice. Their tours emphasize active exploration and observing arctic sea life. It is a solid choice for travelers who want a physically engaging itinerary alongside a supportive social environment. ### Pride-Focused Expedition Cruises In February, expedition brand **AE Expeditions** introduced a nine‑day Antarctica Pride Cruise. This signals a growing trend among mainstream expedition companies to create dedicated space for LGBTQ+ travelers. AE Expeditions’ offering includes the same high‑quality science and wildlife programming found on their standard voyages, but with a passenger list that is intentionally inclusive. **VACAYA** is another option that often appears on lists of the best LGBTQ+ cruises for 2026 and 2027. While VACAYA is known for large ship charters, it has expanded into expedition‑style itineraries that appeal to adventure‑minded queer travelers. ### Major Cruise Lines Hosting LGBTQ+ Charters Several mainstream lines frequently host LGBTQ+ charter cruises. According to the research, these include **Celebrity Cruises**, **Holland America Line**, **Royal Caribbean**, **Uniworld**, **Azamara**, and **Virgin Voyages**. While these are not always expedition cruises, some of these lines offer polar departures. For example, Celebrity Cruises operates expedition ships like Celebrity Flora (Galápagos) and Celebrity Xpedition. Booking a charter on one of these ships gives you the best of both worlds: a premium expedition experience and a built‑in queer community. **Olivia** and **Brand g Vacations** are also mentioned as providers of LGBTQ+ cruises in 2026 and 2027. Olivia, a long‑time leader in lesbian travel, occasionally offers expedition itineraries. Brand g focuses on gay group travel and may include polar options. Checking their websites for 2026 releases is worthwhile. ![gay cruise antarctica](https://i0.wp.com/images.pexels.com/photos/20558243/pexels-photo-20558243.jpeg?ssl=1)Photo by [Hugo Sykes](https://www.pexels.com/@hugosykes) on [Pexels](https://www.pexels.com/photo/valley-by-the-sea-covered-with-snow-20558243/)## What to Expect on an Antarctica LGBTQ+ Expedition An Antarctica expedition is unlike any other cruise. Your journey typically starts in Ushuaia, Argentina, and involves crossing the Drake Passage, a legendary stretch of ocean known for rolling seas. Once you reach the Antarctic Peninsula, you enter a world of towering icebergs, active wildlife, and silence broken only by cracking ice and bird calls. Activities vary by operator. Common inclusions are Zodiac landings, guided hikes, kayaking among brash ice, and visits to research stations. Some tours, like Out Adventures and HE Travel, offer the option to camp on the ice for one night. Whale watching is a highlight, with humpbacks and orcas often appearing close to the ship. Penguin colonies are everywhere; expect to see gentoo, chinstrap, and Adélie penguins going about their daily lives. On an LGBTQ+ charter, the ship becomes a floating community. One past expedition on Ponant featured a completely LGBTQ+ passenger list with drag performances, showing how expedition cruising can blend adventure with celebration. Packing for an Antarctic expedition requires serious layering. Waterproof outerwear, insulated boots, and thermal base layers are essential. Most operators provide a parka for landings, but you should bring your own gloves, hat, and high‑quality sunglasses. The sun reflects intensely off the ice. ![whale watching antarctica](https://i0.wp.com/images.pexels.com/photos/20558161/pexels-photo-20558161.jpeg?ssl=1)Photo by [Hugo Sykes](https://www.pexels.com/@hugosykes) on [Pexels](https://www.pexels.com/photo/whale-near-people-on-pontoon-on-sea-20558161/)## How to Book Your LGBTQ+ Expedition Cruise Booking through a specialized travel advisor who understands the LGBTQ+ community can simplify the process. If you want a cruise that is both luxurious and authentically welcoming, a Master Cruise Counselor like Michael Beaver at Travel with the Beav can help. The service offers free initial consultations and has deep knowledge of expedition cruising, including planned group departures like the [Antarctica 2028 trip](https://travelwiththebeav.com/antarctica2028/). Even for a 2026 voyage, talking to an expert early is wise because expedition ships are smaller and charters fill quickly. When comparing options, consider the size of the ship, the included activities, the level of luxury (some operators are all‑inclusive with open bars and suites), and the specific dates. Many expedition cruises run during the austral summer from November to March. The best wildlife viewing is often in December and January, when penguin chicks are hatching and whales are most active. Black Friday deals from operators like Atlantis Events can provide significant savings. Watch for early‑booking discounts and promotions. Because expedition cruises are more expensive than typical ocean cruises, planning ahead helps you lock in the best price and the cabin you want. ## Beyond Antarctica: Other LGBTQ+ Expedition Destinations in 2026 While Antarctica is the crown jewel of expedition travel, LGBTQ+ expedition cruises are also available to the Arctic, the Galápagos Islands, and the Amazon. **Celebrity Cruises** offers Galápagos expeditions on its luxury megayachts, and several lines offer Arctic itineraries to see polar bears and northern lights. If you prefer a warmer expedition, the Norwegian fjords or the Kimberley coast of Australia can be equally adventurous. The key is to look for operators or charters that confirm their commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion, either through dedicated sailings or through strong diversity policies. Uniworld, known for river cruises, also offers expedition‑style voyages on certain waterways. Their inclusion in the list of lines that host LGBTQ+ charters means you can find a queer‑friendly river expedition through Europe or Southeast Asia. ![lgbtq expedition cruises](https://i0.wp.com/images.pexels.com/photos/15241912/pexels-photo-15241912.jpeg?ssl=1)Photo by [Diego F. Viking is not specifically mentioned in the research as a host of LGBTQ+ charters, and the brand’s policies are not covered by the pack. Travelers should contact Viking directly or check recent passenger reviews to assess onboard inclusion. For a guaranteed welcoming environment, consider operators that explicitly market to the [LGBTQ+ community](https://travelwiththebeav.com/category/lgbtq/). ### How much does an LGBTQ+ expedition cruise to Antarctica cost? Prices vary widely by operator, ship, cabin category, and included activities. The research pack does not provide specific rates. Generally, expedition cruises to Antarctica start at several thousand dollars per person. Booking through a specialized advisor like Travel with the Beav can help you find options that match your budget and expectations. ### Do I need prior expedition experience for an Antarctica LGBTQ+ cruise? No. Most operators design their trips for all ability levels. Hiking and kayaking are optional, and guides provide training before each activity. If you are comfortable with moderate physical activity and want to try something new, an Antarctica expedition is accessible. Camping on the ice is a bonus for those who are adventurous, but it is not required. ### What is the best time of year for an LGBTQ+ expedition to Antarctica? The austral summer runs from November to March. Peak wildlife viewing occurs from December through February, when penguins are nesting and whales are abundant. January offers the warmest temperatures and the longest daylight hours. Many LGBTQ+ charters sail during this window to maximize the passenger experience. ### Can I find LGBTQ+ expedition cruises for solo travelers? Yes. Many operators offer single‑occupancy cabins or roommate matching services. Atlantis Events and Out Adventures are known for welcoming solo guests, and the community atmosphere of a full‑ship charter makes it easy to meet fellow travelers. Booking with a specialized agency can also help you avoid the solo supplement on select sailings. Embarking on an LGBTQ+ expedition cruise in 2026 is a chance to experience the world’s most stunning wilderness while surrounded by a community that celebrates you. Whether you choose Antarctica, the Galápagos, or the Arctic, the combination of adventure and authentic inclusion creates memories that will last a lifetime. Start planning now, talk to an expert, and get ready to set sail on a truly extraordinary journey. ![author avatar](https://i0.wp.com/travelwiththebeav.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/0133-Michael-Beaver-by-Alan-Luntz-scaled.jpeg?ssl=1) Michael Beaver Travel Advisor [See Full Bio](https://travelwiththebeav.com/author/rankscore/) **Categories:** Destination, LGBTQ+ --- ## Pages ### [Home](https://travelwiththebeav.com/) **Published:** August 3, 2025 **Author:** Michael **Content:** # Travel With The Beav ## The cruise you keep almost booking. ### Let's actually book it. Small ships, serious itineraries, and the kind of onboard experience where the staff knows your name by day two. This is where the CLIA Luxury Cruise Certificate matters. **River Cruising** Europe’s rivers are a different kind of travel. Slower, more immersive, cities instead of ports. AmaWaterways, Uniworld, Viking, and Celebrity River Cruises are the lines worth knowing. A river cruise is also one of the most naturally comfortable environments for LGBTQ+ travelers, because the scale is intimate and the clientele tends to be sophisticated. **Expedition Cruising** The far reaches. Antarctica, the Arctic, Patagonia, the Galápagos. Small ships, expert guides, and destinations that require an advisor who knows the operators. Swan Hellenic, Quark, HX, and Silversea Expeditions are the lines in regular rotation here. ![](https://i0.wp.com/travelwiththebeav.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/antarctica-8012488_1920.png?fit=1024%2C683&ssl=1 "antarctica-8012488_1920 | Travel With The Beav | Travel With The Beav") ## The first conversation is free. Here's what it actually looks like. No intake form. No sales pitch. A real conversation. The first question is always the same: if money were no object, what does your dream trip look like? After that, where you’ve been before, what worked, what didn’t, and what you wished had been different. From there, the recommendations follow. Not a brochure, not a list of options. A specific suggestion, with a reason behind it, from someone who has already done the thinking. Most people leave the first call with a clearer picture of their trip than they had going in. Some leave ready to book. Either way, it costs nothing. [ Book Your Consultation ](https://calendly.com/mbeaver85/30min) ## Antarctica is not a bucket list item. It's a decision. ![](https://i0.wp.com/travelwiththebeav.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Wildlife-emperor-penguin-brunt-ice-shelf-10006540-2560x1024-1.webp?ssl=1) ![](https://i0.wp.com/travelwiththebeav.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/antarctica-8012488_1920.webp?ssl=1) Most people spend years saying they want to go. Then they go, and they say they should have gone sooner. The Drake Passage. Zodiac landings on ice shelves. Humpback whales surfacing close enough to hear them breathe. Penguin colonies that stretch further than you can see. There is nothing like it, and there is no version of it that is anything less than extreme, extraordinary, and completely worth it. Expedition cruising to Antarctica requires knowing the operators. Not all lines are the same. The ship size, the expedition team, the landing ratio, the onboard culture, all of it matters. Swan Hellenic, Quark Expeditions, HX, and Silversea Expeditions are the lines that earn the recommendation here, for different reasons and different travelers. ### Group departure: Antarctica, February 2028 A small group sailing on Swan Hellenic. Spaces are available. This is not a gay cruise charter. It is an expedition trip, planned and hosted by an advisor who already knows this community, on a line that earns the recommendation. If Antarctica has been the trip you keep almost planning, this is the conversation to have now. [ Ask About the February 2028 Departure ](mailto:mbeaver@expediacruises.com) ## Travel is better with people who already get it. Group travel here means small, carefully planned departures on lines worth sailing. Not a party charter. Not a generic tour. A trip designed around a specific itinerary, with a host who has done the work before anyone boards. **Currently open:** **Antarctica — February 2028** Swan Hellenic. Spaces available. The most extraordinary destination in the world, with a group that already speaks the same language. **Europe River Cruise — Coming** The Rhine or the Danube, most likely with Celebrity River Cruises. Timing and itinerary in development. If European river cruising is on your list, get on the interest list now. [ Get on the interest list for upcoming group departures. ](mailto:mbeaver@expediacruises.com) ## The advisor behind the practice Michael Beaver is a Master Cruise Counselor and the General Manager of Expedia Cruises NorthShore in Glenview, Illinois. Expedia Cruises is the number one travel brand in the United States, which means the buying relationships, the supplier access, and the industry standing behind every booking are serious. The MCC credential from CLIA is the cruise industry’s highest professional designation. Michael has also completed CLIA’s Luxury Cruise Certificate and Meetings and Events at Sea Certificate. Travel has been part of his life since his first cruise at age three. A college trip to Malta became a career. Since joining Expedia Cruises in 2019, the focus has moved from Caribbean getaways toward the trips that require more planning, more knowledge, and more trust: luxury ocean, river, and expedition cruising, with Antarctica at the top of the list. Travel with the Beav exists because there is a version of this client who wants a great trip and an advisor who already understands what great means for them, without needing it explained. That is the only client this practice is built for. ![](https://i0.wp.com/travelwiththebeav.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/0133-Michael-Beaver-by-Alan-Luntz-scaled.jpeg?fit=769%2C1024&ssl=1 "0133 Michael Beaver by Alan Luntz | Travel With The Beav | Travel With The Beav") [ Book a Consultation with Michael ](https://calendly.com/mbeaver85/30min) ## Questions people ask before they book a call **Does it cost anything to work with you?** Not typically. Travel advisors are compensated by the cruise lines and suppliers, not by clients. You pay the same price you would booking directly, and in many cases you get more, cabin upgrades, onboard credits, priority access, because of the relationships advisors have with suppliers. The consultation is free. The expertise is included. **Why book with you instead of going directly to the cruise line?** When you book directly, you get a reservations agent. When you book with an advisor, you get someone who knows the difference between what the brochure says and what the ship actually delivers. A Master Cruise Counselor has relationships with the lines, knows which cabins to avoid and which to request, and is in your corner when something goes wrong at sea. The cruise line’s agent works for the cruise line. Your advisor works for you. **Can you book LGBTQ+ specific sailings, like Vacaya or Atlantis?** Yes. Group charter sailings through LGBTQ+ specific operators are a real and bookable option. If that is what the right trip looks like for you, that is a legitimate conversation to have on the first call. The goal is always the right trip, not a particular category of trip. ## The trip exists. You just haven't booked it yet. Phone or Zoom. Thirty minutes. No obligation. I know what it feels like to research a destination and wonder whether the welcome is real. I know what it costs, in money and in energy, to get that calculation wrong. And I know what it feels like to get it right, to be somewhere that was genuinely built for who you are, where the only thing you have to think about is the trip itself. That is why I do this work. Not as an advocate. As someone who has been where you are. ![](https://i0.wp.com/travelwiththebeav.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/0133-Michael-Beaver-by-Alan-Luntz-scaled.jpeg?fit=769%2C1024&ssl=1 "0133 Michael Beaver by Alan Luntz | Travel With The Beav | Travel With The Beav") ### Follow me on Social! I do not remember it, but apparently it took. The trip that actually changed things came later. A college visit to Malta with our concert band. I went for the music. I stayed for the country. The history, the warmth of the people, the particular feeling of being somewhere that had been lived in for thousands of years. I came home knowing that international travel was going to be a serious part of my life, one way or another. For the next decade, I worked in higher education administration. Advising fraternities and sororities, managing residence halls, building alumni relationships. What I was actually doing in every one of those roles was listening to people, figuring out what they needed, and helping them get there. I did not know it at the time, but I was learning how to be a travel advisor. I started booking travel on the side while I was still in alumni relations. It turned out I was good at it, and I loved it more than anything else I was doing. In 2019 I joined Expedia Cruises. In 2024, I made it my full-time career. ## The specialty Cruising, specifically the premium to luxury end. River, luxury ocean, and expedition. These are the trips that require the most knowledge, the most nuance, and the most trust to get right. I am a CLIA Master Cruise Counselor, one of the cruise industry’s highest professional credentials. I have also completed CLIA’s Luxury Cruise Certificate and Meetings and Events at Sea Certificate. I serve as General Manager of Expedia Cruises NorthShore in Glenview, Illinois. Expedia Cruises is the number one travel brand in the United States, which means the supplier relationships and buying power behind every booking I make are serious. The lines I know best: Silversea, Regent, Seabourn, and Crystal on the luxury ocean side. AmaWaterways, Uniworld, Viking, and Celebrity River Cruises for river travel. Swan Hellenic, Quark, HX, and Silversea Expeditions for expedition cruising. Antarctica sits at the top of my personal list. I have a group departure sailing on Swan Hellenic in February 2028, with spaces still available, if that is a trip you have been thinking about. ## What working with me is like People tell me they feel taken care of. That I listened. That the trip I sent them on was the trip they actually wanted. That is not an accident. It is the same skill set I spent fifteen years developing in higher education. Understanding what someone needs, asking the right questions, and getting them where they want to go. The first conversation is always free. It starts with the same question: if money were no object, what does your dream trip look like? Everything else follows from the answer. ### Book a Consultation with Michael Phone or Zoom. Travel with the Beav is my practice, and group sailings like this one are built the same way I build every trip: around what actually makes a destination worth going to, for the people who are actually going. Antarctica has been on my list for a long time. SH Diana is the right ship for it. I put this sailing together because I wanted to go, and I wanted good company for it.
